One of Goodreads’ “first-time novelists to discover in 2021,” Eric M. Johnson is an American journalist, author, and outdoorsman.

His first novel, Whenever a Happy Thing Falls, a withering account of a recent graduate’s toxic life at an elite investment bank, was published on March 2, 2021, by Cloud Hands Press. The book draws on his experience working as a financial analyst in Chicago and living in London.

He joined Bloomberg News in July 2023. As Space Editor on the Global Business team, he helps to oversee the agency’s coverage of the space industry, from Elon Musk’s SpaceX to legacy juggernauts like Boeing. Before that, he spent more than a decade at Reuters News in Chicago and Seattle covering aerospace, transportation and logistics, the 2012 White House race, and breaking news of national and international significance.

He graduated in 2006 from Albion College in Michigan, where he studied economics and English and played soccer.

He lives with his wife and two young children in Seattle, and spends his free time fly-fishing and hunting across the American Northwest.
